January 02, 2009, 05:37 PMAs a Newbie, perhaps I shouldn't be listening to this Elementary Lesson, but as a soon-to-be tourist, I'm very interested in learning about directions. My question concerns the pronunciation of individual words on the Vocabulary and Extension pages. 'Chulai' sounds like 'chula,' wang3 sounds like wang 4, zou3 sounds like zou4, and zou3guai3 sounds like zou3guai4. Is this colloquial? or just my goofy ears?
