August 21, 2017, 02:33 PMGreat series on a beautiful essay! Only have time for a brief comment for now. There's a typo in the Wordsworth quote. Should say: "To me the meanest flower that blows can give thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears." (No comma after "give"! May seem trivial, but it confused me for the longest time, as it says something bizarre with the comma, and doesn't match the correctly rendered Chinese version! This distracted me from the content of the lesson, till I looked up the original. Better to fix the typo and have no unnecessary distractions to the content of the lesson?)

August 19, 2017, 06:02 PMThere's a mismatch in the first sentence. The translation has a description of the officer (skilled at singing), and a direct question from Su Dongpo (how do we compare?). This is missing from the Chinese text (both written and spoken), which begins: 東坡有幕士，嘗謂柳永詞只合十七八女郎. Is this a typo? Is the question missing? Or was it added to the translation as unspoken context?

April 12, 2017, 01:38 PMI find verbal explanations tiring and hard to internalize, and I always get confused stopping to remember my mnemonics.
I think this is a case where a couple of two minute situational videos (not overacted!) would be worth a thousand words. Filmed from the perspective of each speaker in the dialogue (speaking naturally, not 'trying' to teach), the use of 来 and 出 would be intuitive and obvious. No mental gymnastics required!
