When I first came to China in 1988, this was a major problem for me. I don't think I ever met a person that didn't eat meat other than monks and nuns.  Most of the time the waitress had no idea what I was talking about.  Thanks for the lesson. I find the improvements very helpful.

Thanks. I am very interested in Chinese stories and legends. Is it possible to have a lesson on the Moon festival legend or any other interesting legends?

I really enjoy these kind of stories, but my Chinese is not good enough to understand it.  Please find other legends to use as lessons.  I find this kind story very motivating and enjoyable.  Perhaps you could use some Chan stories.

When I was working in Chengdu ten years ago, I visited several very nice homes.  Their bathrooms had showers, but both were open without a shower stall.  You had to hold the shower nozzle in one hand and wash with the other.  There wasn't any heat either.

In Beijing, I went to the public showers.  They were cheap, but crowded.  Many of the men took very long hot showers.  There wasn't a pool for washing.

Is calligraphy written using only classical characters? Currently does anyone use the simplified characters to write calligraphy?  How many educated people can read the older character style?

I am a male, and I have been helped many times with my luggage by Chinese men and women without asking.  I couldn't ask because I couldn't speak Chinese.

I have moved around China quite a bit teaching English.  When I worked in JinHua, I was paid by deposit in a large national bank.  I took a job for the next university term in Hangzhou.  I had saved most of my salary, and I didn't want to take it to the U.S. for the summer.  So I thought that I would just leave it in the bank and transfer it to a Hangzhou branch when I arrived for the fall term.  Wrong thinking because when I arrived in Hangzhou and went to the local branch bank.  I was told this wasn't possible as I didn't have a bank card only a bank book.  Four hours later I was making little headway with the branch manager, but he did offer to loan me the money so I could return to JinHua and withdraw the money.  Luckily I had a credit card.  I had to return to JinHua withdraw the money and return.

This will be my last semester in China and I have some money to bring back to the U.S. so I would appreciate all the information you can give about this.

Being a Buddhist, I'm not so happy with this lesson.

Amber and Clay, I really miss you.  I have just been

revisiting the old Qing Wen programs that you and Connie did and I enjoy them so much.  They really are such a pleasure to listen to.  Thank you so much for your fun and interesting lessons.
