What a great way to start the Newbie lessons again! Was it on purpose that it was put on April 1st?

I have not actually heard shu1 bao1 used much when referring to a students backpack in the States.

Also, on a completely different note, I like how Chinese is more straightforward than English! For instance:

'Wo3de bao1 tai4 zhong1le!'

No 'shi4' at all, not needed. I like it!

Question though, in what kind ofcase would you use 'shi4'?

I was wondering if the part 'zi' after a word makes it obvious that it is an object, i.e. kuai4zi, yi3zi, zhuo1zi.

If that is not the complete case, can someone please explain the purpose of the part 'zi,' I would like to understand it better.

Thanks so much! : )

I was wondering, how can you say: "Please take off your shoes?"

I've heard bu4ke4qi3 be used more for saying something along the lines of "No problem" when someone says "Thank you", even though it means basically "No need to be so polite."

So I was wondering, could bu4ke4qi3 also be used if someone is just plain being too polite in normal conversation, like telling them (politely) to stop being so gracious?

@ light487,

I'm sorry for the long wait! Thanks a lot for sending me that link, it does make sense.

I would like to ask, (respectfully of course) WHY, oh WHY is ChinesePod going almost completely, "You must pay in order to learn Chinese" ? I have been using ChinesePod because it was free. It is still however fun, easy to use, and extremely helpful. Please respond!

I got the first! Anyways, is there cultural reasons why asking about someones business or job is involved in smalltalk?

Great lesson! Bu4 tsuo4!

Just a general question.... I have been listening to ChinesePod for a few months and I am getting a bit better with my Chinese but I am still listening almost completely to Newbie lessons. (I need to slow down when I speak so I can get the tones as correct as possible.) Anyways, my question is, when should I start listening to the elementary lessons?
