Spring weather goes between cold and hot without warning – it's not stable. People's bodies are slow to react after going through a long winter – they need time to adjust. If you start wearing less all of the sudden, it's particularly easy to get cold. So, you have to wear more for a little while. Fall is the exact opposite. If you want to be able to withstand the cold, you first have to improve your ability to resist it.
