John: Coming to you from Shanghai, China this is Chinesepod. My name is John.

Jenny: Hi, I'm Jenny.

John: And Jenny, today we've got an Intermediate lesson, right?

Jenny: 嗯,对。 今天呢我们要打电话,打电话叫出租车

John: OK, so we're calling a taxi on the phone.

Jenny: 对

John: That means we're going to have to deal with some kind of, like, phone system.

Jenny: 嗯,就是这种语音电话,voice recording automated......

John: Yeah, the thing that we all love about the modern world.

John: Jenny, I found that first sentence a little bit, uh, difficult. The recording.

Jenny: 啊,它用了一些jargon,对吧

John: Yeah, can you help us decode the jargon?

Jenny: 好,这个recording说:您好,欢迎进入强生62580000调度系统,欢迎进入强生62580000调度系统

John: OK, so welcome to 进入, doesn't that mean 'to go into'?

Jenny: 嗯,是的

John: Enter into

Jenny: 对,因为这里我们提到了一个系统,一种system

John: OK, 系统, 4th tone, 3rd tone.

Jenny: 对,然后你打了电话以后呢你就进入了这个系统

John: OK, so the act of making the phone call into their automated voice system.....

Jenny: 嗯

John: ...is ‘entering’ the system

Jenny: 对,那么常常就是在这种语音电话,这个automated recording

John: Uh huh

Jenny: phone message 里面会用这个欢迎进入什么什么系统

John: Ah, OK I see

Jenny: 对

Jenny: 嗯,诶不过今天我们会听到一些这个recording,但是呢也是会有一个真的人跟我们讲话

John: OK, so first there's going to be a recording and then there's going to be an operator.

Jenny: 对

John: And we're going to hear a word that is quite specialised to this particular context

Jenny: 嗯,是的

John: And it is....

Jenny: 调度,调度

John: Alright, two 4th tones. This refers to the process of dispatching a taxi

Jenny: 嗯,没错

John: To pick you up

Jenny: 是的

John: Alright, so we're ready to listen to the dialogue now.

Jenny: 嗯,对。 62580000这就是他们的电话号码

John: Are they giving you money Jenny?

Jenny: I wish

John/Jenny: 呵呵

Jenny: 所以如果你在上海的话你可以打这个电话号码去叫出租车

John: And actually we specifically chose this brand because their 调度系统 is kind of simple

Jenny: 诶,对。而且呢他们的司机也比较好

John: OK, so anyway, they call, they get the voice number

Jenny: 嗯

John: And then the operator comes on and the caller states her purpose, right?

Jenny: 对,他说:你好,我要叫一辆车,叫一辆车

John: OK, so to call a cab, to call a taxi. And the measure word for a car, of course is?

Jenny: 辆,一辆

John: OK, 4th tone

Jenny: 嗯。好,那这个operator他也有一些问题,他说:您的联系电话是多少,联系电话是多少

John: Right, so it's not just 电话 or 电话号码

Jenny: 嗯

John: It's 'contact phone number', right?

Jenny: 对。。。

Jenny: 。。。联系,联系,第二声和第四声

John; OK, 2nd, 4th. And is this a phrase you're going to hear a lot when you call these, uh, automated taxi reservation lines?

Jenny: 对,叫出租车啊或者【开】有什么事情【要】联系你服务,服务类的工作

John: OK, so it's kind of a service industry type phrase

Jenny: 对

John: Because it's not necessarily your own cellphone number or your home number, it could be your work number

Jenny: 没错,但是这个电话这个号码是他可以联系你的

John: OK, so the phrase is

Jenny: 联系电话,请问您的联系电话是多少?

John: And then that might need an additional number, which is?

Jenny: 分机号,分机号

John: And that means 'extension number', right?

Jenny: 对

John: So, the tones are?

Jenny: ‘分机’,两个第一声然后‘号’第四声

John: OK, one, one, four

Jenny: 嗯

John: And of course, one of the most important pieces of information is....?

John: And so what kind of 系统 is it?

Jenny: 这里是一个‘调度系统’就是我们前面说的‘调度’这个词

John: OK, so 调度 is 'dispatch'

Jenny: 对

John: So, it's a dispatch system

Jenny: 嗯

John: And we also heard the brand, right? The taxi name

Jenny: 对,‘强生’,‘强生’

John: 'strong life'

Jenny: 呵呵

John: Alright, so that's 2nd, 1st

Jenny: 对,然后这个是上海一个真的一个出租车公司而且最大的【之一】

John: OK, so that's a real brand and a real phone number?
