June 20, 2007 at 8:59 PMDear all of you, in the expansion we find: 这个梨不甜。 (This pear isn't sweet and 上海菜有点甜。 (Shanghainese dishes are a bit sweet.) in the first sentence you say: bu4 (shi4)tian2 it isn't sweet, whereas in the second sentence it runs: shanghainese dishes "have" sweet ( you3 dian3 tian2 有点甜). When do you use the "you3" and when the intrinsic "shi4" to name this gustatory quality? Walter in Berlin
