A previous comment about Chinese not being described musically is incorrect. Chinese tones have been recorded musically in Chao Yuen Ren's A Grammar of Spoken Chinese (Berkley: University of California Press, 1968), p. 26.
For a sample of that diagram you can see a document I started working on (although VERY VERY incomplete and way too wordy - it does have musical diagram of tones though)
