February 19, 2008 at 10:13 AM外面彩旗飘飘家中红旗不倒 Does 彩旗mean 'lover'? Does 红旗mean 'wife'? Does this sentence essentially mean that as long as a man looks after his in-laws and provides for his family, his wife will still be with him even if he has a lover on the outside? This was a great lesson. As a foreign student studying in China, I have had this conversation with many Chinese friends. I am amazed that so many students don't believe in finding equal love. So many of my classmates said they wanted to find a 差不多 kind of person. As they are all so young, my response to them was why settle for 差不多now, when you can always find 差不多later? It seems that quite a few of my classmates believe that marriage is in large part for practical purposes. Then again I think there is more pressure in Chinese society to get married and continue on the family line.
