June 15, 2007 at 8:32 AMI am disappointed :( I was SO happy and proud when I realised that I can actually manage these advanced lessons after having been doing upper intermediates, it gives me twice as much material. Without the English pop up words I feel like going back to the stone age though, because I need to use some external dictionnary to translate the words I don't know, and more annoyingly, I can't add them to my vocab list anymore! The list is quite useless without the translations and I simply don't have the time to do it in the complicated way. That's why I suscribed to cpod -because it's Chinese on my terms! I admit that I might not yet have the super advanced level but the only way of progressing is trying a little bit harder level each time and once I've got my way around the unfamiliar material I really enjoy these lessons and feel that they are the ones that teach me the most. Translating them from word to word myself simply takes too much time though and I will have to abandon :( Today I really don't like you anymore, cpod!

June 23, 2007 at 9:47 AMHey, this is a very emotional territory to me, I had to react. I mean, changye, seeing my precious mothertongue (Finnish) being compared to some invented science fiction language makes me very confused. Klingon?! Come on, it doesn't exist for real! Well never mind, that wasn't your point. But I'm sure there are plenty of real languages that remain more complex than an invented one, how about Russian, it's not the simplest one either? I know I'm a little out of the topic here, but just for the sake of commenting (and maybe there are some language freaks out there;), having a 'grammatically complex' mothertongue really makes learning foreign languages easier, English for example is a piece of cake. Chinese pronunciation is a nightmare though, they only seem to have sounds I naturally don't have whereas Japanese, according to a Finnish friend, is really easy to pronounce. Sometimes I hear people speaking Japanese at a distance and try to listen to them beacuse for a second I mistake it for Finnish...
