So, I guess you don't have a phrase like we have in English (maybe American-English here) like 'going dutch', this scenario of course would be between good friends, and rather informal in nature. Would you have the same requirements for 面子 in that kind of informal setting? In America, we've kind of eliminated the male treating the female thing, for better or for worse, it would even be impolite and insulting for a man to pick up a successful woman's tab/bill.

Could she have said,’You have a bad memory, I paid last time’?

I remember rush hour in Tokyo, we were all crammed into a train and my face was just about shoved into a woman's chest...it was very embarrassing, are the trains as packed in Shanghai or Beijing?

My Latin teacher in 7th grade used to say 'salvete discipuli' and we'd all shout back 'Salve Magistra!', she had a hairdew that made her look like a Roman goddess, Hera maybe...!!!

That was in the late seventies, times have sure change, I bet Shenzhen was just a fishing village then, now it's bigger than Manhattan!!!

同 意, 打 太 气 好 得 多! I agree, something like taichi is much better for us old folks. Anyhu...playing twister could be dangerous in more ways than one for naturally healthy youth of certain ages...
