I immensely enjoy the Intermediate lessons John and Jenny give! But of all of them, this one made the greatest impact. The acting, the dialog quality, John's & Jenny's cheery contributions...or perhaps it was just that for once I understood almost all Jenny's side-cracks!

But the thing that really hit me was the 2 seconds of "Ni shi wo de mei gui, ni shi wo de hua"! I had never heard or heard of this song.

I watched Pang Long, and some anon female performing it online. To me this kind of song, the joyful way it is sung, and the way the crowd reacts, all encapsulate some sweet romantic dream that has entered Chinese culture, attempting to paper over the more horrible aspects of the situation. I could feel this dream everywhere I went in China.

The younger Chinese took over the disastrous aspect of Romantic Love (and - make no mistake - RL is a disaster) from western culture, but they're remaking it their own way - I can't exactly put it into words yet. I know there's an exploitative commercial aspect, and even that the Party itself uses this kind of culture to divert attention, but there's also something more going on in it, something immensely lively and positive.

But now to the point of my post: is anybody kind enough (please) to set out the lyrics of "Ni shi wo de mei gui, ni shi wo de hua" IN PINYIN? (Yes, I looked online, can't find them...)

Thanks,

Peter (屁特 - or maybe I should try

特?)

P.S. What does ShenYaJin mean. Is this beautiful woman also part of the teaching staff here?

I'm a trial-period newbie, but enjoyed this dian4chi2 segment very much. The witty illustration of grammar/vocab by John and Jenny was well-above average, so special thanks to them and any script-writers they employ. Great fun and very educational. I could never remember: remote = yao2kong4qi4, but the remark that it was "far control instrument" somehow cemented it. Are John and Jenny the couple in the xiao zhao pian on the site's main page?
