I studied acupuncture about 20 years ago and I recall that 'heat' and 'cold' and 'wind' were all causes of disease, and the diagnosis and treatment of such diseases was pretty well-established in traditional chinese medicine, suggesting ancient origins. Indonesians have similar beliefs common in their culture today, suggesting a common thread in Asian cultures perhaps?
