In fact ,i didn't  understand you until i saw the comment written by reigau.

 he said:"I would guess that "each man, one mouth(ful) in his hand" could also be expressed by saying "each man takes one (mouthful)" or "to each man give only enough for one mouthful", and you put the word hand in just to keep the sense of the whole character."

when i saw the english sentence written by you, i mean ""each man, one mouth(ful) in his hand",i was wondering if that  english sentence was wrongly written, beacause if i translate it into chinese , it was like this, 在每个人手上放一口. that is so strange...实际上我觉得可以把"人, 口,一, 手" 这四个字的顺序变一下, 变成 人,手,一,口 就更好理解了. 实际上你想表达的意思就是:每个人都可以吃一口(一个)饺子吧. 就像reigan说的那样,each man take one mouth(ful).

  Still thank you for your explaination, i like to discuss chinese characters with you very much.

actually, "fen" means "share","part","portion" ,there are some examples;

    分(fen1)成(cheng2)两(liang3)份(fen4) which means  divide into two parts.

   一份利(li4)润(run4) which means  a share of profits

or you can say ;份fen4 额e2 ,for example, 增zeng1加jia1 市shi4 场chang3 份额 which means increase the share of the market.

hi,neutral_tone;

   i have heard about this story before. so funny! 其实,很多汉字都可以被拆开,这也正是学习汉字的乐趣所在,就像你说的这个故事一样,"拿" 被拆成了4个汉字:人 口 一 手. 但是我我不明白你写的这句英文 "each man, one mouth(ful) in his hand."是什么意思.你可以解释一下吗? In fact , many chinese character can be divided in to several other characters, just as the "拿" in the story you meationed above, it can be divided, as you said ,into 4 parts: 人 口 一 手. but i just don't understand the last english sentence that you wrote," each man , one mouth(ful) in his hand". Can you explain that to me?
