Is it as common for young people in China to meet each other through the Internet as it is in America? Are there as many different social networking sites as in America?

I wonder what is the place of Chinese calligraphy in modern schools in China nowadays? Do students still practice an hour a day as they did during my parents generation? It used to be considered one of the most important skills every educated person needed to have.
