This lesson is quite hard. like many others who don't understand it, we can discuss the lesson together to try to understand it better. i've made a skypecast on skype so we can discuss it more. it is titled 'chinesepod'

因为世界这么复杂而所谓的常识也太多。 你的常识并不一定是我的常识反之亦然。 我爱看科学方面的书但很缺乏文学知识， 莎士比亚也许是英国人那么托马斯慢呢? 我对中国历史比较熟悉的同时也得承认 我还不太清楚中国各省的省会到底在哪， 苏联崩溃以后的世界地图就更别提了吧。 这样看来我就没有资格嘲笑那些法国人。 我想有没有常识并不是衡量能力的尺度， 关键是有没有技巧查到自己需要的信息， 更重要的是你对未知的领域感不感兴趣。 现代信息化社会和十几年前完全不一样， 你能在网上容易地获得比较可靠的信息。 反过来说只要有电脑你就能装作万事通。

法国人有什么事儿? 除了总统萨科齐娱乐生活有别的脸谱化吗...? 再说，在那篇课文有人说"愚昧的中国农村人并不少！"，那我不知道最愚昧的是谁，至少他们农村人不假装了!反而我们跨国公司的加州研究中心有经常秘书送信件到瑞典，好像瑞士和瑞典都是某个外交的欧洲地区 :-(

Going back to the "连。。。 都" which appears twice here. 连国旗都不认识 "Even the flag also don't recognize" 连这点常识都没有 "Even this common knowlege also don't have"

hi everyone, out of Jenny and Connie, which one of them has the most standard chinese. i am not sure which version of chinese is standard, since they all talk differently. What about John, even though he is American, maybe his chinese is the most standard?

Jenny and Connie both speak standard Chinese. They just sound different. :)

I noticed this expression that seemed strange to me: 把...建筑在... I thought 建筑 means a building, but in this context it doesn't make sense. Is this a typo? Thanks.

alexyzye, 你好！“把自己的快乐建筑在别人的痛苦上”是一个习惯用语。这里的“建筑”是动词，意思是“to build, to construct”. 有时人们也说，“把自己的快乐建立在别人的痛苦上”。

Oh dear, CPOD, I'm beginning to have serious doubts now that I have any right to be lurking in "Advanced" any more. I was only able to get any sort of handle on this lesson because I have no problems understanding French, and John Pasden's youtube clue cracked it for me. But I still no idea whatsoever what show you are talking about? Will you please consider giving your users some help with proper nouns? Unlike grammar and vocab points, proper nouns are almost impossible (for me, that is) to infer. Thanks!

Excellent pronuciation. Real life, current topic. However exercises are too small to view.
