Congratulations CP. I agree with all the positive remarks so far :-)
I'd like to especially add how much I appreciate the excellent voice-actors and the sound engineer(s). The way the latter blend the sound effects with the dialogues is very effective. I've been noticing this over and over again recently: how they work in well-chosen little details to accentuate a certain moment. That, together with the great voice acting, lends the dialogues an ambience that makes learning them both easier and more fun.
And of course the lesson hosts themselves set a standard others strive to live up to.
Keep em coming!

Great lesson with many different meanings of the word "no". I always found it difficult to know which "no" and which "yes" to use. This really helps a lot. Also great use of the different holidays.. it's all so great.. Haven't heard a Elementary lesson with this much great stuff I can sink my teeth into for a while.
I thought 好好儿 meant more "serious".. I can't find the reference where I saw this at the moment but I am fairly sure it was using this chunk to emphasise the need to make "serious" effort.

Congratulations Jenny, John, Ken, Amber, Connie and everyone at ChinesePod.
As one of the disgruntled ones who complained two years ago or so about the gulf between Elementary and Intermediate, I'd just like to pay tribute to how superbly you as a team responded to the customer feedback. The way John and Jenny in particular structured lessons to help aspirant Ellies make the transition was truly superb. I now really value the Chinese banter at Upper Intermediate, most of which I can understand, and I've even found a couple of the Advanced lessons within my reach. A huuuge amount of credit is due to you for this. Looking back I can't believe the progress I've made with your help.

Hi bolinlaide,
Thanks a lot for showing us the extraordinary interesting text “施氏食獅史”. To my surprise, all the characters used in it have the sound “shi”. I read it very carefully and found that the text completely makes sense in Chinese. Just amazing! As far as I know, probably only Chinese language can do such a trick.
According to Wikipedia (Taiwan), 赵元任 (1892-1982) is a great Chinese linguist, who spent his life as a researcher mainly in the US. He wrote the “施氏食獅史” in 1930s in order to prove the stupidity of the Chinese romanization movement that was very active in China in the first half of the 20th century.

Consequently I've whizzed from upper Newbie to lower Upper Intermediate (while doing old-school evening classes too). There's some things I know that the classes would never have taught me. OK, here's a special 1,000 anniversary grammar question:
记得和想起来有什么区别?
Can they both be used interchangeably ?
“记得” means somthing in your mind clearly, you memorized it well and could repeat it as soon as you need.
While "想起来" means you have to think, and then some blured memories become clear in your mind.

Thank you, bolinlaide and changye, for bringing up 趙元任's Chinese tongue twister. How brilliant a linguist he is!! I have never seen this tongue twister before, which is entirely made up of the sound 'shi' in different tones. And it made sense. Just for fun I translated this piece here:
An Account of Mr. Shi’s Eating Lions
Mr. Shi, a poet, who lives in a stone chamber, is very fond of (eating) lions, vows to eat ten of them (some day). Mr. Shi goes to the market frequently to check on (the arrival of ) lions. At 10 o’clock, ten lions happen to arrive at the market. At that time, Mr. Shi happens to arrive at the market. Mr. watches the ten lions. With his arrow-shooting skills, he made the ten lions die. Mr. picks up the carcasses of the ten lions and returns to his stone chamber. The stone chamber is wet. Mr. asks his attendant to wipe dry the stone chamber. With the stone chamber wiped, Mr. tries to eat the ten lions. While eating, he realizes that the ten lions are actually the carcasses of ten stone lions. Try explain this matter.

Just a pointless bit of trivia perhaps, but actually there was at least one lesson Jenny was not in. I remember an old intermediate lesson with John and Aggie. It was about standing in a line I believe. I remember it because I really liked Aggie's voice. Too bad she didn't do many lessons. I absolutely adore Jenny, but a little more variety would be nice, or at least occasionally a male Chinese teacher.

Funny, I was just telling my male Chinese friend the other day how I seem sooo much more fluent in talking Chinese to female Chinese friends... there does seem to be a big difference, even in how I am able to use the language to make a joke, or understand tone of voice, etc. It seems when I talk to a guy in Chinese, if I do, that it is more of a novelty thing, where when I talk to a girl, seems to be more natural due to how pretty much all my teachers have been female.
