这个男孩子是谁?:
[who is this boy?]:
I literally touched my computer screen to 'pinch' these babies' faces. 怎么这么可爱?/zen3 me zhe4 me ke3 ai4/how can they be so cute?
@bababardwan,
Any clues (besides the obvious photo of course)?
Jenny,
好的;以来那个时候,他真的发展
【ok,since that time,he's really grown]
姚明
changye,
对。你的奖品是廉耻
【correct.Your prize is the honour]
Jenny,
In reference to the computer pinching,I thought I'd post a youtube clip [hope you can use the proxy],which shows in the first minute how the pinch recipients view it:
ps j/k of course,hehe.
Hi bababardwan
I'm not clever enough to be able to tell who the baby is, but clever enough to check the property of the photo. To tell you the truth, at first I thought the baby was 胡锦涛 (Hu Jintao), hehe.

changye,
你真诚实,不过那个方法没有帮你为这个问题:
这个谁的女孩子?:
[you're really honest, but that method won't help you with this question: who's baby girl is this?:]
@bababardwan, a boy? I think it's a girl.
shenyajin,
You mean my first photo?
Here's the link.
Personally,I wouldn't be telling Yao Ming that he looks like a girl, but hey, that's just me.
这个蒙面的男孩子是谁?
[who is this masked boy?]:
Hi bababardwan
I shouldn't have confessed my trick. Let me make a wild guess.
She is 王菲's baby girl.
Hey changye,
李嫣 had a hare lip, but she's not a bat woman ;-)
Hi pete
Actually, I looked at her lip closely with a magnifier before posting my comment, but couldn't tell if she has a hare lip..... Who is her mother?
Bababardwan, please give us a hint. 给大家一个提示!
@bababardwan,
Honor is 荣誉/rong2 yu4. 廉耻/lian2 chi3 is honor and shame. It is often used to mean moral compass.
Jenny,
Thanks for that.Interesting word.I'd be curious to see it in use.
Changye,
Of course I simply meant honour.I can't read hanzi for the time being, but here is your requested 1st clue:
Hi bababardwan
I'll leave it to other guys!
@bababardwan, come on! Take off the mask, batboy!!!
This is classic
请问一下, 在这种情况下可以说‘弟弟’和'妹妹'而不是'男孩子'和'女孩子'?
(In this situation would it be okay to use the terms 'didi' and 'meimei' instead of nanhaizi and nuhaizi?)
Isn't photo sometimes pronounced zhao4pian1, with first tone pian1, or is that only when it is zhao4pian'er1?
nice episode- I think I need to show off my little girl ;) half shanghainese Half Dublinese ;) let me see if we can dig this out, she's a great GAA player!
Hi pnolan
Your little girl is very lovely. And my chubby dog seems to be interested in the dogs (?) in the photo.
Thanks Changye, she's a little minx, sorry I just couldn't resist the urge to post her up here ;), at this stage I thinks she thinks shes a dog and would be very dangerous around your chubby dog!
My wife got the baby pics done last time we where in shanghai in March and we've had about 5 calls from the photo company since then to make sure we bring her back next time - they want to make some adverts or something. It's probably not really ethical to push a baby into a modelling career but it could pay our airfares to china...)))
I would agree with Ken, that it's a bit much for a baby to go through but as a husband of a shanghai lady, there is never really a choice in the matter (no offence intended or not meant in a negative way - just a fact).
We also got those wedding photo's which went down a treat in Ireland but it's just not worth the pain - www.paullovesyun.com
This was the first set of our wedding photos - we have 3 sets - 1. was the fake wedding photos (above) 2. The real irish wedding photos and 3. The real shanghai wedding photos.
Ridiculous or what?
Wow.Stunning pics pnolan.
You can see my little tyke here. His Chinese name is 周子茗 (Zhōu Zǐ Míng). His mom is from Chongqing, I'm from the UK.
He was born on February 13 2009. Boy, what a night that was!
Now he gets me up early every morning and keeps me on the hop all day.
raygo,
What an absolutely gorgeous photo !! I can see why you're so proud.Lovely smile. Thanks for sharing. :)
Cheers mate!
Actually the photo was taken by a pro. Recently my wife has been quite excited about this baby contest she put the little guy in for. Voting finished the day this lesson appeared otherwise I'd have been inviting all of you to vote - lol. He made the top 100 anyway, now goes on to the next round! I'll let you know if he becomes the champ!
Here's a slightly more recent pic which I took myself.
@bodawei, in this situation, you can not say "弟弟” or "妹妹", because they might be totally strangers! These two words are used to address relatives(and maybe your friends' relatives), but only when you know for sure they are not strangers!
@junejune122009, there are two correct pronunciation for "照片", they are zhàopiàn and zhàopiānr, but sometimes people from the South will pronunce "zhàopiān", and this is also widely accepted.
Raygo, the little fellaw is unbelievably cute :), congrats! and Please don't let my wife find out about this baby contest :)
bababardwan xiexie ni
@pnolan
Cheers mate, and your little girl is a beaut. And you look pretty hoopy in those excellent wedding pics!
The bizarre and dreadful (I'm kidding people!) social phenomenon which is the taking of Chinese wedding pics can only be regarded as one of those odd cultural phenomena studied by err... anthropologists. It deserves a lesson or a CPod feature all to its own. If it ever gets one I'll take the opportunity to describe my own day of torture.
@bababardwan It's not a baby 邓小平 is it?
(edit 5 mins later)
oh crap, I just worked out when this photo would have to have been taken between 1904 and 1910. Lets say it was taken in 1906 it would look something like this:
Not to mention the haircut is from a more recent era.
Nup. I'm stumped.
Matt,
Sorry but no.Actually I was looking for baby photos of other famous Chinese but found it very difficult.Anyway, here's the full clue:
Actually I was looking for baby photos of famous Chinese actresses I knew of such as Zhang Ziyi,Gong Li and Maggie Cheung but came up zippo.I must confess I wouldn't have known this couple myself but the article I got it from said they were famous actors and that their daughter was born in Beijing on 30th December 2008.As that was recent I thought others may have recognised them.Further hint...the mother played the role of pig monster in a hit tv sitcom.Sorry if they're not that well known.Hard to guage these things from outside China.
OK then here ya go. Who's this?
Ok,it was Xu Zheng and Tao Hong's new baby.Sorry if they're obscure. It was hard trying to find baby photos of the really famous Chinese.
Raygo,
Any hints? I'm resisting resorting to Changye's method at this stage and teh twin/gogill/sogill writing is coming up with zilch.
OK, here's a hint. It's one of the three beautiful actresses you were looking for!
Gong Li?
Well done!
It is the very lovely 巩俐 as a little girl. Didn't she grow up into a beauty?
@shenyajin
I did have the impression (from somewhere I can't remember now) that the terms "弟弟” and "妹妹" were used for total strangers, a very colloquial way of referring to babies or toddlers - I must have that wrong, hey? Is there a chance that it is a regional practice?
@bodawei, yes, you are right, but we'll say "小弟弟" and "小妹妹" for strangers instead, eg. “这个小妹妹真漂亮”.
Here is my little sweetie. Today is her 100th day, which is an important milestone for Chinese. Her mother is originally from Shandong.
Can anyone help me to install the simplified chinese characters into my pc its a windows vista
Thanks.
Congrats cambrink, she's a special little girl!
anislauris, see if this is any help.
李小龙
Here's a picture of my grandson, who is half Chinese and lives in the US. This picture is from May, when he was 6 1/2 months old.
Final drivel post before new policy kicks in.On the subject of babies,I thought this 短片 [video] was good for a 欢笑[belly-laugh]:
Youtube address:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQcVllWpwGs
anyways, just finished the lesson, wanted to say thanks, i know it seems like commonsense, but when you add the lego building block ideas during the podcast, it makes me think about how else i could use the words i'm learning and then they seem to stick a little better
哈哈!幸亏就是面条而已!不然他已经炒面了
呵呵
大家好啊,我是新来的, 大
家多多关照哈
Cpod, this is another lesson which does not appear in a lesson search.
All right, here is a pic of me... 4 years old. I need to add that in Croatia back in those times boys did not get a haircut until they were about 5 or 6 years old... LOL.
We are getting that fixed now, thanks go_manly - again!! Great photo qingdaodragon!
