巧克力 - qiao3 ke4 li4 - CHOCOLATE: this is suuuuch a hard word for me to pronounce correctly in Chinese, and if anyone wants to know--for a Chinese person that doesn't speak any English, saying 'chocolate' to them sounds NOTHING like qiao3 ke3 li4. Unfortunately from years and years of repeated use, the word chocolate is so burned into my brain that it causes too much interference when I try to say it in Chinese! Oh well, there are plenty of other words for me to learn. Luckily some friends dropped off the other day some nice bitter-sweet German chocolate for me. 从天堂的礼物。cong tian tang de li wu. A gift from heaven. I will be back after having a little snack to sooth my soul. I totally forgot it was Easter, looks like it's one holiday that hasn't yet been commercialized into China, no bunny eggs popping up in the supermarkets. 宝宝，别碰那个, that's my chocolate! 宝宝，过来, you can have a little. 宝宝，好乖，你喜欢巧克力吗？爱吃吗？ （ni xi huan qiao ke li ma? Do you like chocolate? ni ai chi ma? Do you love eating it?) I love you 宝宝 你很乖啊！ (ni hen guai a! You're a good boy/girl!) Happy Easter everyone.]]> Lantian

Ken Its your fault! All I was doing was following your instructions to open my mouth and speak. There I was sitting at CKS Airport in Taiwan with my wife. We were on our way to Tokyo to see our own grown-up daughter. I listened to today's lesson and thought ok substitution time. So I said to my lovely mate in the sweetest tones " 太太 乖, 别淘气" She did no think it was cute. So why when Jenny beseeched you in lovely tones with the same words you were like a well behaved puppy and followed her every instruction. I think if she had offered you a treat you would have rolled over or done some other trick for HER C-pod listeners ? I know I was sitting well behaved listening to the lesson as well. I think you might want to start each lesson with the following " 当心 we are not responsible for what happens when you speak in Chinese." BTW do you think you could do a lesson on how a husband gets out of the doghouse. I have no doubt you have quite a bit of experience with this issue in your own home. Mike in Jubei]]> Mike

In the meantime, keep studying, because in the advanced lesson on idioms, Jenny and Karen teach the following phrase, which I think has higher odds, though referring to rule number one above, there is no guarantee! 沉鱼落雁（chén yú luò yàn）is mostly used on staggerinly beautiful women]]> Lantian
