Business cards. In China they’re handed out for any and every reason… but what do you say when you get one? “Thanks” might seem a little bland, but then again, “WOW! You’ve such fine taste in paper!” might be a bit over the top. So then what? Better find out; you’ll be doing it about 12 times a day. In this podcast, learn to do the ol’ card exchange, in Mandarin Chinese.

I don't think it's terribly impolite for one to put someone's business cards in his wallet. What you need to bear in mind though is to receive business cards with both of your hands when they are handed over to you.

shortly after i posted the question, I actually googled "receiving business cards in China" and found a website (the first link) that confirmed what my college professor originally said about never writing on business card or putting them in your wallet or pocket. they should instead be placed in a small card case.

Ironically, however, the same website said that one should not discuss business at meals which i thought was a odd because it contradicts what i've heard on this website and other places as well. Don't think the website's very ”靠谱“

As far as receiving business cards goes, I kinda assumed that I should receive the card with two hands. Nevertheless, it's always good to have someone confirm your initial thoughts. Thanks!

I think it is important to receive the business card with both hands and acknowledge their position in the organization. Putting the business card in your pocket probably is not acceptable, but carefully putting it in your wallet is OK. In an arranged meeting, make sure you have plenty of business cards to hand out.

95% of your business cards will never be referenced again. If you meet someone important to you, send them an email thanking them for the meeting and so on. It seems in China, phone numbers, positions, and addresses change frequently.

In the grammar section of this lesson, the fourth sentence has an error. While the 'simplified' version is correct, the 'traditional' character presented and defined as 'dry' is incorrect.

The correct traditional character for dry is 乾

While you have 幹 instead.

This is one of those cases were more than one traditional character has been changed to the same simplified character.
