Most of us have spam filters on our email inboxes. They certainly make life easier a lot of the time, saving us the hassle of deleting loads of advertisements for unnecessary (and often less-than-wholesome) products. Yet sometimes spam filters also cause problems. Check out today's lesson for some useful technology terminology.

Hi Helios,

文件夹 is (wénjiànjiā) is 'folder' is in both the physical world, and on your computer. So, spam folder would be 垃圾邮件文件夹 (lājī yóujiàn wénjiànjiā). I think you can also shorten it to simply, 垃圾文件夹.

As for 'to be sent to accidentally as opposed to directly', I think 转到 (zhuǎndào) would work well here. (I found it quite a bit on the web also just to make sure). 转到 literally means to 'transfer to', but gives the feeling of something that changed direction as well.

I'm not sure about how to say the specific type of program your referring to. We'll have to ask a teacher on Monday when they're back in the office! Hope that helps for now.

So far phone spam is not so thematically... interesting... as email spam. My favorite is when they send you a bank account number. No explanation.
Regarding 垃圾 :---Dictionary meaning is --garbage, disposal, rubbish,

                                 refuse.

垃圾箱 ( la ji xiang ) obviously means garbage can or dustbin.

一堆垃圾 ( yi dui la ji ) would be a heap of garbage.

I feel it is reffered to inanimate objects. But in contexts like : " you talk rubbish", la ji can be used.

                                                                     Therapist

Regarding 垃圾 :---Dictionary meaning is --garbage, disposal, rubbish,

                                 refuse.

垃圾箱 ( la ji xiang ) obviously means garbage can or dustbin.

一堆垃圾 ( yi dui la ji ) would be a heap of garbage.

I feel it is reffered to inanimate objects. But in contexts like : " you talk rubbish", la ji can be used.

                                                                     Therapist
