How long is "just a moment?" In today's Chinese lesson, you'll learn how to talk about things that are about to happen. Wait for it-- the lesson is almost here. Just a bit longer, and you'll be learning Mandarin. Hold on, almost there...

The graphic is like neverland. You will never get from here to anywhere.

Speaking of taxis, if you come from North America or Europe or any developed economies, you will find taxi fare so cheap in China. A flagfall of 11 RMB (1.4 USD) covers 3 km in Shanghai. And every additional km is 2 RMB. An average ride in town is around 20-30 RMB.But a trip from Shanghai's Pudong airport to the city (which is in the outskirts of the city) will set you back at around 150RMB .

Note that prices are different in different cities in China. Most other cities are slightly cheaper than Shanghai.

panny888,

Yes, there is 30% surcharge after 11 pm in Shanghai. I expect the same for Beijing. Do you have an advertising touchscreen in taxis there? In Shanghai, many taxis are equipped with a scree on the back of passenger seat next to the driver. I know it is all advertising, but it is done pretty engagingly.

@mroby I'm envious of you living out in the sticks (or vast plains of nothingness in your case). Having once lived in similar environs I know the joy living an inexpensive, challenging yet joyously deprived (in a material sense) existence. In fact I often dream of being able to do that again, but alas the city has ensnared me.

What's the local speciality food wise? Photos? :)

Great lesson as usual.

I have a question about "shifu". Do we use it on situation where we have to show respect. I mean what's the difference on saying "xiansheng". First time i see shifu in this situation, i thought it was like "master". If a driver can be called "shifu", is a cooker a "shifu" too for exemple ?
