Not quite sure which of the buddy movies i've seen that this dialogue mirrors, but it would be interesting to hear it from a woman's point of view.

I got to hear a woman say once to one of her friends, "girl, you have to train your man". Interesting how the sexes stumble toward relationships.

Now after all these love/relationship/dating/affair lessons (I haven't listened to all of them), has cpod actually taught us how to say "sex"?

Hmm... I guess the 大哥 Lothario here gives pretty good advice, but after going through it all I really just want to reprise your recent comment pretzel, I mean the one about being glad you weren't single, dating and chasing being just too complicated.

I guess if every amorous pursuit should be planned like a military campaign this guy really knows his stuff.

I was more thinking that this guy sounds like a 24 year old just experiencing life.

And on the "sex" front, I wanted Cpod to just come out and have dialogue like "when are we going to make love/have sex?" or "Xiao Long and YuQuan had sex last night. YuQuan said that Xiao Long was no good in bed".

Also, I don't like to think when I talk :=)  Meaning, I don't think about explanations while my poor brain searches for the right word or phrase.

Certainly CPod won't be featuring it, they've been on the squeamish side recently, notice how the Love Tangle series has been left hanging in the air? Doesn't look good for a language site to be giving such impressions of Chinese life, dontcha know?!

Either way, you reap what you sow in relationships. If you start out with a toxic attitude towards the people you want to attract, you'll inevitably end up with a messy end. 种瓜得瓜, 种豆得豆.

Fair point. Now that I think about it, I seem to remember cpod has also done a relationship series about that side of the coin as well. Yeah, I'd say Cpod has relatively speaking, explored the relationship continuum pretty well. There must be over 100 of these types of lessons out of the not-quite 1400 lessons at this point.

I think 女朋友 should be 'girlfriend' not the girl that he wants to date. In this dialogue it seems, 他的女朋友生气了. His girl friend is unhappy. Maybe he did something offend his 女朋友.

I still almost always get something from Intermediate and the presentation is always good and entertaining but often too short. Just how do you cater to all levels and those in between? That's the great Cpod question. Herein is my suggestion. Do you have one Munson and others?

The translations at the sentence level are translated into what would be the 'English equivalent' in spoken English. However, realizing that here at Cpod, our aim is to actually learn the material, we also have the pop-up translations, which offer a direct translation of each word. This way, we can offer both the equivalent, and the direct translation.

Unfortunately, those aren't available on the PDF and are only available on the live site. Maybe we could look into including a document with all of the 'pop-up', or direct translations of each word. Would you be interested in that?

I totally agree, I float between the two levels. I use int for practical vocab and clear sentence structures that I can easily emulate, and I dip into upper-int for more colloquial stuff.

I've found in teaching English that the difference between int and upper-int to be quite large too. (B1-B2 CEFR)

To answer John's question, I would prefer less content and more explanation. Given that some of the content is pretty deep and tricky to use, I think it warrants clear examples.

Anyway, my problem is a different one. It is hard to find enough appropriate study material to get from CPod student to fluent. I think that is a much bigger and more important gap than the one between U and UI lessons, and a harder one to fill in than just wanting more explanation for a particular turn of phrase.

[BTW, I still consider myself at UI level, because in lots of respects my Chinese is still pretty bad, especially in regard to speaking and active vocabulary. I still usually need to study the transcript and listen a few times to understand all of the content of a UI lesson. I wouldn't follow the dialog completely if I encountered it one time in the wild, as is how normal conversation is conducted. I am hungry for more material to bridge that gap.

The advanced lessons are another notch up in difficulty, but there really are not enough of them for my purpose, and they well beyond where I hope to be actively speaking anytime soon.]
