Granted, the 'you're tall' compliments have gotten fewer and farther between since Yao Ming had to come on the scene and wreck it for all of us. However, you can still milk some around here... just get some high heeled boots. Listen to this podcast, which will teach you not only to tell someone your height, in Mandarin Chinese, but also teach all you imperialists to think metric.

All true empires of the past used stone age measurements. Today's is no different.
Stone age is superior.
You boil your water at 212 degrees not just 100
The mile is much bigger than the Km.
And who wants a litre if you can have a gallon!
Oddly enough there are 100 cents in the dollar.
Perhaps it was easier for the emperors to count their money on their fingers. Being so isolated they never heard of the abacus. Ah well...

The people around
the tall man in the photo
seem to be Japanese or Korean.
I’m of average height of Japanese men.

你这么高。You are so tall.
他那么高。He is so tall.
我个子低。I am short.
我个子矮。I am short.

Hi ingmar,

If I had been born in US or England,
I would have never passed math exams
at school. I love decimal numeration system.

Jenny,

I had read somewhere that Yao Ming is a bit hard of hearing in one ear. An NBA referee had thought that Yao Ming deliberately ignored him until he learned about Yao Ming's hearing problem. So next time, make sure you're standing on the side of Yao Ming's good ear and tell him that he is really tall! :)
