Bazza, 你说的全对！Ni3 shuo1 de quan2 dui4! You are completely correct! Beau, Thanks a lot for the great tips. But somehow I still can't type the tones. But then, I've always been IT-challenged. A lot of fellow poddies swim in a confusing sea when Ken and I convey the lesson in Chinese at the intermediate level.But like you pointed out, understanding real life Chinese is the ultimate goal=终极目标/zhong1ji2 mu4 biao1. I have to admit that I use a fair amount of quite advanced language in intermediate shows, which really does call for signposts. I am going to explain more from now on. Hope this will make everyone's learning more effective and enjoyable.]]> jenny zhu

If you have Microsoft Pinyin IME setup, there is a 'soft keyboard' for typing pinyin tones, but it's not very practise as there doesn't seem to be quick way to switch it on and off. I usually just copy and paste the pinyin from Hanzibar.]]> Bazza 吴白锐

I learn more and more everyday thanks so much for this excellent work, but it's quite confusing now on transcripts you write chinese in both traditionnal and modern writing, is it so much necessary ? We all learn chinese from you in Shanghai, so why this new confusing system wich mixes things in my memory ? Also, lesson Chinese New Year Family : Jenny says the first chapter, you explain some vocabulary of the second and Jenny doesnt read it completly. Hi Jenny; Idon't think you should tune down your level of han4yu3 in intermediate lessons; on the contrary, these sessions have been a major joy up here in frosty Finland ( now -22C, normal this time of year). Just keep up the same level and pace, there's Ken to fill in English (Irish ;-)) when needed. I don't grasp everything in one listening, but that is exactly the point: repeat, repeat the input, find your way with PlecoDict or dictionary and write hanzi. Then take the PDFs and check if you got it right. When living in the midst of foreign language you never get everything clear, but the purpose is to g e t a l o n g with people, to communicate. This is exactly what ChinesePod does. I've seen and tried many kinds of language education, but this is the most useful experince so far. Thanks to the whole crew!]]> Antti

i agree, these chinesepodcasts makes learning so easy and fun. I think podcasts will be used in the future to teach everything, from university lessons to swimming lessons. They already have podcasts for guitar lessons, and photoshop tutorials. I love podcasts!!]]> iamgreat

iamgreat, I agree...we agree. It's all about learning when you want, on your time. I would, however, dissuade you from listening to podcasts while swimming...although a lesson on "What to do in China when you get electrocuted" might be fun. Ei Yo! Aric]]> Aric the Producer

I'm a devoted listener of englishpod the counterpart of this program. I find there is a two days break on every ten days' show consecutively. Whithout any englishpod to listen I came here for fun. Now I learned that it may much more difficult for a non-native speaker to master Chinese. I feel lucky I'm fluent in Mandarin naturally at first, so I won't bother to learn how to pose my tongue crectlly in order ro pronounce the right tones. My best wishes sincerely.]]> Prince
