I have a question. When can we use the word “ 衬衫” ？ I never see or hear it used. Is it ever used? And I have another question, do Chinese people usually just say "t-shirt", even when they're speaking Chinese? I guess what I mean is, do most Chinese people actually say “T恤”， or do they usually just say "T-shirt" ?

either way, I think it would be cool if Chinese people would choose a Chinese character that sounds like "T", instead of writing “T恤”.

How about I coin one right now? Here it is: "体"

So the new Chinese word for T-shirt is 体恤。Not only does it sound the same as T恤， but it 体also means "body" , which is what the shirt is covering. It's totally perfect.

You're welcome China!!

I feel that an important item of clothing has been neglected - the humble trackie dacks (more formally known as the track suit.) An essential item in Winter in China. Admittedly you may not get into a dance club wearing them. Although people wear them to work.

运动裤· yùndòngkù (trackie dacks) Other definitions you might find in your dictionary are not used in practice here.

bodawei, never heard the term "trackie dacks" before, but if you're referring to track suits, then these are the suits that I see kids wearing as school uniforms? I still see them wearing these things in 30 degree weather. I hope they're wearing 2 sets of long underwear under them.

Correct - I believe that our American brothers and sisters call them 'sweat pants'. I would find it difficult to refer to an item of clothing affectionately as 'sweat pants' - puts them in a similar category as 'jock strap' wouldn't you agree?

Trackie - a lengthening of 'track' (in Australia we either lengthen or shorten words when we find an affectionate form.)

Dacks - trousers.

衬衫/chèn shān are business shirts (but also include those with a more casual style). Yes, they have buttons.

Wow... "trackie dacks"??

There are the cotton kind, which we call sweatpants, sweatshirts, or a sweatsuit (together), but then there are also those lightweight synthetic ones, called "track suits" (?). I'm not entirely sure how to refer to these myself! I'll let the teachers take it away...

sweatsuit中文怎么说？
