Though cha2,shui3,and guo3zhi1 all have tones which sort of rise at the end of the words [well with guo3zhi1 at least from the low point of the 3rd tone in guo even though it evens out at zhi1] it still sounded like the bloke in the dialogue managed to maintain the tones while at the same time put a questioning tone on top of the tones.Interesting to listen to.

A friend just reminded me that it is Dragon Boat Festival Day tomorrow, so enjoy your zong zi and enjoy this 2000 year old tradition.

I recently returned from Inner Mongolia and wished I had learned the to use the term 随意 instead of 干杯 . (See Lesson 0381). Also, never begin toasting one Mongolian with bijiu when there are a dozen more at the table. The other term was about "flying to heaven".

Great lesson. Thanks.

Hello Chinese Pod I have a suggestion. When a Newbie starts learning Chinese they start by listening to the newbie lessons and there are many. Soon they will advance to the Elementary. There are so many Newbie lessons already so why continue the Newbie lesson? There should be more focus on intermediate and up so that it focuses on progress. There are already plenty of Newbie lesson to study that easy let you go to Elementary.

Allow me to point out that I am not yet " a member of the club " . As a new bee , in these columns I miss the pin1yin1 and the english translation\ explanation when someone writes only the han4zi . In spite of it , I find some of these contributions to the lessons very useful .

My comment to the spoken exercises part : I love the way how Janny pronounces , and , if Kent waites just a little longer with his comments\explanations to whatever is said by Janny , we ( the listners ) shall have more time to pay more attention to the new words and sounds , and not " feel interrupted " by Kent`s prompted good intentioned comments on the subject
