Traditional Character Flashcards

September 26, 2009, 09:03 PM posted in General DiscussionIs there any way to toggle flashcards between traditional and simplified? All my lesson dialogues toggle back and forth no problem and, of course, PDF's have had a fix from the beginning. However, the flashcards only seem to display simplified characters, regardless of lesson settings.
Any help would be appreciated.

September 26, 2009, 11:36 PMRJ, thx. That's pretty much what I figured, but was just checking if there wasn't some setting that I was missing. No big deal, since simplified's my weakest area.

The flashcard functionality draws from your saved vocabulary. So is your saved vocabulary in simplified? This is likely the case if you saved words before we added fuller traditional support a while back.
There's a tool to handle this within the vocabulary section (http://chinesepod.com/username/vocab), though. On the right side, at the bottom of hte sidebar, look for a box marked "Resources." There's a "Convert all Chinese characters to your chosen character set" link, as well as a cog to make sure you've chosen the character set you really want.
Give that a try, and let me know if it does what you want.
We're also going to be upgrading the flashcard functionality in stages, starting in October. No Flash, SRS, etc.

if you save trad using saved vocab in the lesson, it will put a trad character set into the vocab list but the flashcard still shows simplified. The tool in vocab is the same as the lesson cog and works to insure placement of trad into the list, but as I said, still no cigar when it comes to the corresponding flashcard. (both IE7 and Firefox). I know its supposed to draw from vocab and yet this is what happens. Seeing is believing.
Looking forward to the SRS flashcard function.

What RJ says is my experience as well. The cog tool converts my list and my Skritter, but not the flashcards or matching exercise.

September 28, 2009, 03:31 AMThanks for the info, guys. We'll definitely be fixing these issues very soon when we replace the flashcard functionality, and we can make the fix to the matching game at the same time.

September 26, 2009, 09:30 PMtvan - I think your only option right now is to use ZDT or Skritter. I have heard John hint at upgrades that are coming involving flashcards however, so one day it will happen.
