November 08, 2007, 01:36 PMI think the word you want is attentive. On the other hand you have created a hybrid between attentive and affectionate. Whos to say you are wrong.

November 07, 2007, 09:10 PMI guess it's a game, check the corresponding sectionon the aquarium 水族馆 (shuǐzúguǎn) website. 秘笈 or 秘籍 (mìjí) is a secret / extraordinary book rather than a trunk...

November 08, 2007, 07:57 AMthe 麦当劳 wrapper is a give away though, I mean spending a week in Shanghai and getting that food? Other than anthropology it's a mystery to me why anybody would want to do this when there's so much tastier (probably cheaper) local food available

November 08, 2007, 08:30 AMIt had to be done really, I only went once. ;) I was quite surprised to find no English on the display board.

November 08, 2007, 01:07 PMI was alone the majority of time (I wouldn't really recommmend going to Shanghai on your own) so it was easier to find somewhere I was a bit familiar with and you can get away eating alone in Mcdonalds. ;)

November 08, 2007, 01:26 PMinteresting perspective - I was also alone a lot of the time, but I guess I wasn't looking for familiar places so much, rather the contrary. I found that being alone actually makes it easier to practice your Chinese. Restaurants are a drag with all the formality and because you can't order too many dishes for yourself, but little places are great, I sometimes had to elbow my way around particularly at lunch time, but mostly people were very attentionate (does this word exist?), very nice anyway and eager to get into a conversation. I had more than one 老板 (young or old) come and sit next to me, enquire about the price of my cellphone, did I like their food and such like. Next time I promised my wife I'll take her along, this time I wanted complete immersion for maximum practice
