I would be interested in hearing about Chinese textbooks people use and prefer.
I use two:
Short Term Spoken Chinese (Pre-Intermediate Level) published by Beijing Language and Culture University. I don't really like it - I find the series a bit boring - but I know that this is the one they use in the language schools in China. I would say this is about the level of Chinese Pod Intermediate level.
Chinese in Steps vol 4 (Cypress Books). This is used at some of the UK universities. Level 4 is of a level slightly lower than Short Term Spoken Chinese but I find it much more user friendly and useful (and modern) than the Short Term Spoken Chinese.
