Here we go again with tonights questions in english ready to be "translated"!
1) in the discussion I think Jenny says using the northern style 儿 is more standard. Is this correct?
2) Where is 几乎 different from 差不多
3) Is outdoor winter swimming popular? (冬泳)
4) What is the difference between 户外 and 外面?
5) 带劲儿 has the meaning interesting. Is this the same as 有意思 or 有兴趣

December 14, 2010, 09:21 PMOkay that was an interesting lesson even if my late night was slowing down my listening skills further!
1) Either is good using the 儿 is more common in and around 北京 but not using it is 标准。
2) 几乎 has a meaning more like hardly where as 差不多is more the almost meaning 差不多五点 its almost 5 oclock
左右 means more about so 现在五点左右 implies just before or just after 5 oclock.
3)Got a bit messed with the question
冬泳的人多不多 is correct and way more elegant than the chinglish I ended up with!
More bizarely it does seem to be fashionable 流行 (我觉得冬天的人疯狂啊 上海的冬天和这里的冬天一样，太冷游泳啊）
4) 户外 is the outside of "outside sports" where as 外面 is just generally not indoors....
5) 带劲儿 has the meaning interesting in an energetic fun fashion.
eg?: 滑板很有带劲儿
有意思 does mean interesting in the normal way
eg?: 学中文真有意思
有兴趣 means interested in
eg?: 我对电脑有兴趣
