Our last lesson of 2010.  This week has been really busy so questions again quite few.

1) What is the measure words for a sword?  Is it 条?

2)卫生间,洗手间 and 厕所 are they interchangable or do they have specific uses?

3) Is 元旦 the right term for the western new year or is 新年 right too?

Okay excellent session for the 二零一零的最后的课 managed to speak more and understand more.. :-)

1) The measure word for sword is 把 did this a few weeks ago with 孙悟空。 把 is used for things you can hold in your hand.

2) 厕所 is used for public toilets 公共厕所。

洗手间 tends to get used in hotels and is the polite way to ask for the bathroom.  This is also the one to use if visiting someones house (or a 饭店吗)

卫生间 tends to be more formal used in situations like the dialog i.e estate agents or if you were counting。 我的家有两个卫生间。

3)Both 元旦 and 新年 are correct for new year.  过年 is applicable to the lunar year change at 春节 (though did not quite get whether 新年 could also be used here).

我们的下节课是明年。二零一一年一月三号。一年好像过去了快 对不对!

(the year passed very quickly)
