Hey, I'm new here. My name is Spencer. I've been studying chinese for a really long time now, but it's always been on and off, and self-taught. I never really stuck to my studying. I learned enough to get by and impress my chinese friends, and so I got too comfortable, and stopped learning. But I've recently come back from a visit to china. While there I learned two things:

1. Yes, my chinese is good enough to get by. I was able to speak chinese almost the entire time, have phone conversations in chinese, and get to know the chinese people.

2. I still have A LOT to learn. There's still so much for me to learn if I want to speak fluently. I've barley scratched the surface. Also, while over there, to my dismay, I realized that I've developed a few bad grammar and usage habits, probably due to the fact that I taught myself without a native speakers help.

I'm here on chinesepod to learn more chinese, and to make friends who are here to do the same! I've come a long way, and I have a long way to go yet. So I hope that I can become friends with you guys, and we can learn together. 

 

*The picture of my friend and I outside a restaurant in Shanghai. The people in the picture were actually trying to sell us stuff, and I took the opportunity to practice my chinese with them. We ended talking a lot and they even played traditional chinese music for us. I love china... I've got to go back!!!
