John: Alright, so this story is not over
Jenny:
John: So two roommates
Jenny: 对
John: And, uh, yeah right at the beginning we hear that someone lost their keys, right?
John: Alright, now this 掉了, 4th tone, right, 掉
Jenny:
John: This could mean 'lost' but it could also mean 'drop', is that right?

John: Dropped it on the ground
Jenny: 唉
John: But if you lost it you can also say 掉, is that right?
Jenny:
John: And that is also 'I lost my keys'
Jenny: 对
John: or my key

John: Ah, OK, so northerners prefer to say 丢了
Jenny:
John: Alright, but in either case when that happens you have to go...
Jenny:
John: Yeah, so this verb 配, it refers to having a copy made that matches something
Jenny: 没错
John: So, you're making a key to match the original lock
Jenny:

John: And another case when you use 配 is what? Another really common one...
Jenny:
John: So you're making a new pair of glasses to match your eyes
Jenny: 对
John: OK, makes sense
John: Right, so you have the original that you're going to copy
Jenny:

John: So first lend me yours, is that right?
Jenny: 对
John: Why is there a first here?
Jenny:
John: So first lend me yours, I'll have the key made, and then return it
Jenny: 对
John: So it's kind of like, 'lend me yours for now'
Jenny: 嗯

Jenny:
John: So the word to 'lend me' is...
Jenny:
John: All right, lend it to me
Jenny: 对
John: Got it
Jenny:
John: OK, so 拿着 that's kind of like 'take it'
Jenny:
John: Can you just say 拿?
Jenny:
John: Really, why? Is that weird?

Jenny:
John: Yeah, that's true, in Chinese in a lot of cases you just use one syllable, it's weird, they like to have two syllables
John: Could you say
Jenny: 啊。。。
John:
John: Run off with it
Jenny:
John: OK, so this 着 is kind of like 'take it and hold onto it', the, the action will continue over time
Jenny:
