Dilu: Hey guys, you're listening to a Chinesepod Intermediate lesson, my name's Dilu
John: Hey, I'm John
Diu: We're at a family dinner today in a restaurant
John: And it's not an ordinary dinner is it...
Dilu: It's a little awkward
John:
John:
Dilu: 嗯
John: So, obviously he's going to try to make a good impression on the Chinese parents

John: OK, so Dilu, first question
Dilu: 嗯
John: When the girl introduces Peter to her parents she says 这就是Peter
Dilu: 对啊
John: But why doesn't she just say 这是Peter
Peter, Peter this, Peter that, Peter had a dog, Peter took me to some restaurant所以她就经常会提到Peter那今天呢总算是看到了Peter所以她会说这个就是Peter

John: OK
Dilu: ...that I was talking [about]
John: So it's the Peter that I have talked about before, the Peter that you've heard so much about
Dilu: 嗯
John: 这就是Peter
Dilu: 是的
John: OK, I see
John: So this is the same as 叔叔好,阿姨好
Dilu:
John: Yeah, so remember this is the polite way to address your girlfriend's parents if they're Chinese. Now, let me ask a question though. If he had just said 你们好, is that less polite?

Dilu:
John: So, not as polite
Dilu: 嗯
John: 你们好 is just kind of saying hi, whereas 叔叔阿姨好 is politely saying hi
Dilu: 那当然
John: OK, got it
John: So this 嘛 that's kind of emphasising that he thinks what he's saying is obvious
Dilu: 对

John: And then Peter's response is quite modest, right?
Dilu:
John: So, 过奖 is kind of like 'over praise'
Dilu:
John: OK, so 过奖,what are the tones there?
Dilu:
John: So, you pretty much always say 过奖了,you add the 了
Dilu:
John: Alright, and then he says something else
Dilu:

John: So, it's kind of formulaic, polite things to say
Dilu:
John: I have to continue to work hard
John: Yeah, he also understands Chinese culture because he's being so polite and modest, right?
Dilu: 嗯

John: So, 继续努力, that's uh, two 4th tones and then 3rd and 4th, right?
Dilu:
John: Now, one more question. We often use this in work context also, is that right?
Now, what happens next?
Dilu:
John: So, let's first sit down and then talk

Those pesky 将 vs 这样。I think they are more likely to be 这样, but would appreciate other peoples' comments.
