January 02, 2008, 02:07 PMThanks guys. I'm using firefox and the problem only started since I reinstalled the flash plugin. I still have it though. I'll keep working on it...

January 01, 2008, 05:17 PMHi Dave, a couple the weeks ago I had a problem that seems to be like yours. It was under Mozilla Firefox, while everything was OK with IE. On my computer I've found it was a problem of conflict between different programs trying to open similar kind of files. In my case it was RealPlayer to cause the problem, and running Mozilla Firefox I went on Instruments - "Componenti aggiuntivi" (sorry,I don't know how it sounds in English, but the meaning is something like Addictional Components) and I only "deactivete" RealPlayer and everything came back to be OK. If I need RealPlayer I only have to "reactivete" it and it always is OK. Hope this can help you... michele

January 02, 2008, 06:25 AMThat didn't fix my problem. Are there any other suggestions? I can't see what programs I could have conflicting that won't let me play sound files.

January 01, 2008, 04:55 PMDave - I have the same problem. I think it is connected with my recent post: http://chinesepod.com/connections/viewpost/MikeinEwshot/connect/browser+seems+to+stop+%28loop%29+when+viewing+pages+with+sound

January 02, 2008, 11:11 AMI've been having the same problems using Firefox. Usually it's no problem when I'm just looking at the newbie and elementary dialogues but as soon as I go to the expansion or an intermediate dialogue the last examples won't download properly and the browser becomes very slow. Now I've tried removing as many of the add-ons as possible and it has helped a bit. The browser still slows down and won't let me change between different tabs but at least I can hear all the sound clips. Note that it's not just music add-ons like realplayer that may cause the problem, I've removed some antivirus/antispy ones as well.

January 02, 2008, 11:40 AMI don't know if it's the same problem but everytime I open with Firefox a page in the Cpod website it looks quite strange for 1/2 to 1 second. I didn't have that sort of problem two weeks ago. Here is a example : or the full page : http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2378/2157411561_2895317b8c_o.jpg Where does it come from ?

January 02, 2008, 01:42 PMbbjt, if my experience is any indication, it looks like it could be a memory issue. I don't play the sounds online, but if I open one of those pages then go to another tab and try to type something, it's as slow as a wet week. I've grown to expect that of pages that are heavy in flash. Until I upgraded my computer recently I had flash completely disabled, but now NoScript helps to avoid running into flash pages unexpectedly. This is an up to date Firefox on Mac, with quite a few FF add-ons that I have no intention of removing.

January 02, 2008, 01:47 PMHi Dave, you could try right-clicking over a sound link. You should see on the following menu if is there any other program trying to do something, such as " open with...". Also try to remember if you changed anything (updating of any sort? new installation of programs? plug.ins, viewer, reader of any sort??)... in the last time, or since you've noticed the problem. That helped me to find the solution last time. Hope you find useful somehow... Michele

January 02, 2008, 09:58 AMDave, I think Michele may be on the right track. This kind of problem is really hard to troubleshoot because each person's system is different. Are you using Firefox or IE? What versions? What lessons give you trouble?

January 01, 2008, 04:28 PMAnyone? I still have times where sound files won't play for no apparent reason. Re-installing flash hasn't helped.
