I spent New Year's Eve in Amsterdam, which has a really nice China Town. Part of the charm of this part of the city comes from the fact that the streets have their names written in hanzi.

Unfortunately, it seems that in some cases the people putting up the signs were unfamiliar Chinese script. Either that or they were under the influence of fumes from a nearby coffee shop. PICT0142

@Bazza: Vera told me those seem to be transliterative characters, rather than an actual phrase. @calkins: That's an interesting site. A similar and equally funny site is Hanzi Smatter.

That must be the bridge/street in Amsterdam where opium is sold! Great shots Christian. This reminds me of a website full of Chinese to English translation mistakes. Quite funny: Chinglish

That's funny!

I live in the Los Angeles area and the street names in our Chinatown are also in Hanzi.
