Dilu: 好像在中国就无所谓。有很多玩具手枪。就长了跟真的手枪很像。

John: That's true. I don't recommend buying one then trying to sneak it into the States. Anyway, that's all we've got for today. If you have questions, come to ChinesePod.com and ask us.

Dilu: 好。我们下次再见。

John: 再见。

John: Its a sticky mouse.

Dilu: 就是中国这样的玩具好像很多。

John: One other thing I've noticed about Chinese toys is the toy guns.

Dilu: 玩具手枪。有。

John: A lot of them look really real. In the States that kind of gun is no longer legal.

Dilu: 是吗?

John: Because you can trick people. You can buy one and go rob a bank.

Thanks for your 2nd correction - it certainly makes sense.

However I'm not sure what your 1st and 3rd corrections are referring to. Do they belong to another time slot?

Dilu: 就是木头的蛇。好像看上去不太像蛇,但是它的movement有很像。

John: Don't you think?

Dilu: 对。那个橡皮的是更加像是真的蛇。

John: But it doesn't move.

Dilu: 我之前看到过一种玩具的老鼠。

John: A toy mouse.

Dilu: 非常sticky。然后如果说别人把这个玩具老鼠[直接人给]你,然后你就会觉得:its a nasty and disgusting那种感觉。

Dilu: John,你有没有看到过玩具蛇?

John: Toy snake. I think I've seen two types. There's the rubber type.

Dilu: 就是橡皮的那种。

John: That one doesn't look very real in terms of movement. But then there's that one made of pieces of interlocking wood that looks kind of real in the way it moves, but it doesn't look like a real snake.

Dilu: 我的妈呀。

John: If something surprises you or freaks you out.

Dilu: 反正很多东西都是跟妈妈有关系的。

John: Then she says what?

Dilu: 吓死我了。吓死我了。

John: 'Scared me to death'.

Dilu: 这个也很常见的说法。

John: 吓死我了. 吓, that's 4th tone.

Dilu: 对。第四声。哎呀妈呀,吓死我了。

John: Alright, let's listen one more time.

Dilu: 哎呀妈呀。

John: What is that?

Dilu: 这个就是一种感叹。就是:我的天哪。或者说:哎哟。

John: 哎呀妈呀. 妈 means 'mother'.

Dilu: 对啊。

John: I think this is kind of like - maybe Italians will understand it better. Its like 'mama mia'.

Dilu: 对。它没有什么意思。它就是感叹一下。

John: Isn't there another exclamation that Chinese people use a lot that uses a mother?

Dilu: 你是说:'我的妈呀'嘛。

John: 我的妈呀.

Dilu: 对。然后这位妈妈就说:大家不要慌。

John: 不要慌, 1st tone, that means 'panic'.

Dilu: 对。

John: I love this word. Don't panic.

Dilu: 不要慌。因为呢,这是我儿子的玩具蛇。

John: 玩具, 2nd tone - 4th tone, that means 'toy'

Dilu: 对。第二声和第四声。玩具蛇。然后[我们就会你乘客还有去]。他就说,[他说一个词说(two说s??)]:哎呀妈呀。

Dilu: 第四声和第三声。

John: 4th and 3rd.

Dilu: 对。恐怖分子。

John: Let me ask about this question: 会不会有恐怖分子? 'Will there be terrorists?'

Dilu: Or 'could' there be.

John: So this 会 doesn't mean 'will', it means 'could'. 'Is it possible that there are terrorists on the plane'.

Dilu: 因为他在猜,他也不知道,他只是随便说的。

Dilu: 对。然后他就说:飞机上有蛇。然后还叫空姐来帮了。

John: He needs the flight attendant to save him.

Dilu: 还有人说:会不会有恐怖分子?会不会有恐怖分子?

John: 恐怖 means 'terror'.

Dilu: 对。

John: 'Terrible'.

Dilu: 恐怖分子。指的就是那些做恐怖的事情的人。

Dilu: 对。这里应该是rearrange。把东西都放[地]好一点。

John: So what are the tones on that word again?

Dilu: 整理。整理。两个第三声。

John: Two 3rd tones. And that's when something falls out.

Dilu: 然后有一个东西掉下来了。

John: 掉下来 means 'fall down', 'fall out'.

Dilu: 对。有一[位女]乘客她就说:啊,蛇。

John: Here I have to ask: The overhead compartments are all full - you checked the entire plane. How is that possible?

Dilu: 我们知道'都'是有两种意思。第一种就是你说的所有的行李架。

John: All.

Dilu: 全部都满了。但是还有一种,就是'已经'的意思。

John: So the overhead compartment is already full, meaning the one right above you.

Dilu: 对。行李架都满了,我整理一下。我整理一下。

Dilu: 是的。那把包放到行李架上。就是:从一个地方到另外一个地方。

John: Could you say 放在行李架上 ?

Dilu: 这个也是可以的。

John: But the 到 kind of emphasises its moving from one place to another.

Dilu: 对。放到行李架上。

Dilu: 这边说的就是:坐靠窗的座位。

John: Sit in the window seat. Got it. So then he agrees to that, but the mother has even another request.

Dilu: 对。他们有一个包。然后这个妈妈就说:可以麻烦你帮我放到行李架上吗?

John: So she means 'put the bag onto the rack'. Its not really a rack - the overhead compartment.

John: 4th tone. And the window, of course 窗, is 1st tone.

Dilu: 对。第一声。靠窗的。靠窗的。你可以不说座位。

John: So that was omitted. So 'the window one', 'the window seat'. So the kid's in his seat, and then what does the mother say?

John: Two 4th tones. So what did he say when he sees the kid in his seat?

Dilu: 对不起,靠窗的是我的座位。

John: 我的座位 means 'my seat'. So what is this 靠窗的?

John: 系 is 4th tone, JI.

Dilu: 对。但是你要说:系好安全带。

John: That's what I wanted to ask you. Could you just say 系安全带 ?

Dilu: 这样听上去很奇怪。一般我们都会说:系好安全带,或者是:系上安全带。

John: So you usually don't just say 系, you have to add a 系好 or a 系上. Got it. That's just the way it is said. And then what happens next?

Dilu: 起飞。第三声和第一声。

John: 3rd and 1st. Pick yourself up and fly, right? 起飞.

Dilu: 对。请大家系好安全带。

Dilu: 你好,我是Dilu。今天我们在飞机上。

John: Today we have a very unlikely story about an airplane and a snake of all things.

Dilu: A snake on the plane. 好,我们先说一下key word。

John: 好。

Dilu: 蛇。蛇。

John: 第二声,是吗?

Dilu: 对。第二声。

John: 蛇 is 'snake'.

Dilu: 还有'飞机'。

John: That one's easy, that's 'plane'.

Dilu: 好。那我们先来听一下对话。看一看发生了什么样的事情。

John: 好。
