Dilu: 大家好,我是Dilu,欢迎收听中文播客,中级课程。
John: Hey guys, I'm John, this is an Intermediate lesson.
Dilu: 今天我们的课文是关于程序员的第二个故事。
John: So its part 2 of a story about a programmer.
Dilu: 对。第一课里面我们又说:程序员会有很多很多的工作。所以有的时候他们就睡在公司。
John: And this time we're going to hear about some of the problems that the programmer has to deal with.
Dilu: 对。程序员会遇到的一些问题。好。那我们先来听一下对话。

John: So this guy's name is 大齐.
Dilu: 对。这是他的名。他不是姓'齐',他的应该就叫什么大齐,可能是'李大齐'也'王大齐'。
John: Got it. We don't know his last name. What does the girl say to him at the beginning?
Dilu: 我昨天跟你说的那个问题修好了吗?
John: 'Did you fix the problem'. So 'fix', how do you say that?
Dilu: 修好。修好。
John: 修, that's 1st tone. When you add the 好 on the end, you know that its already been fixed.

Dilu: 对。是一个结果。
John: 修 is when you are going to fix it or trying to fix it.
Dilu: 没错。
John: Notice its 'have you fixed that problem that I told you about yesterday'.
Dilu: 对。昨天我跟你说的那个问题。
John: Remember in Chinese when you want to modify a noun, when you want to describe it in some way, it all comes before the noun. So for example we say 'that problem' ...
Dilu: 那个问题。
John: 'That problem that I told you about' ...

Dilu: 我跟你说的那个问题。
John: 'The problem that I told you about yesterday' ...
Dilu: 我昨天跟你说的那个问题。
John: This is a little bit weird at first, but once you hear it enough you get used to it.
Dilu: 对。那那个问题就是:有个用户他更新了一下app,结果他以前下载的东西都没了。
John: So 'a user' - how do we say that?
Dilu: 用户。用户。两个第四声。
John: Two 4th tones. The user did what?

Dilu: 更新。更新。
John: So he updated the app.
Dilu: 对。更新了一下app。更新了一下app。
John: 更新, that's two 1st tones.
Dilu: 对。两个第一声。
John: Some Chinese people say 'app', but a lot of them say 'A-P-P'.
Dilu: 也会说:A-P-P。
John: So he updated the app, and then what?
Dilu: 结果他以前下载的东西都没了。
John: 结果 - that's 2nd tone, 3rd tone.
Dilu: 对。就是 'as a result','turn out to be'。

John: So in this case there is a pretty direct cause-effect relationship, but you'll notice that sometimes 结果 is used without a real cause-effect, its just like 'and then this happened'.
Dilu: 对。
John: In this case, what's the result?
Dilu: 他以前下载的东西都没了。
John: The things he downloaded before all disappeared. How do you say 'download'?
Dilu: 下载。下载。第四声和第三声。
John: 4th tone, 3rd tone. So the programmer's response is ...
Dilu: 哦,我等会儿看看。我等会儿看看。

John: 等会儿. So 'wait a little while'.
Dilu: 对。就是等一会儿。可能是三十分钟左右吧。
John: OK. So remember this huǐr, 3rd tone.
Dilu: 对。第三声。等会儿。
John: So 'look at it in a little while' - 等会儿看看. And then there's another problem.
Dilu: 对。还有一个用户,他想买东西,但是一直进不了支付页面。进不了支付页面。

John: So we know we're taking about a website now because we see the word ...
Dilu: 页面。页面。
John: Two 4th tones.
Dilu: 对。两个第四声。
John: That means 'page' of a website. And what page is it in this case?
Dilu: 是一个支付页面。支付页面。
John: 支付 - 1st tone, 4th tone - that's a formal way to say 'pay'.
Dilu: 对。是比较正式的说法。支付。
John: Its the same as 付, or 付钱.
Dilu: 你可以说:付钱。如果你说'支付',就会有一些formal。
