John: A real estate agent.

John: That word's not going to be in the dialog, but we're going to hear lots of stuff about apartments, and it is kind of formal because you have this person introducing a very expensive property, formally.

Jenny:

John: What's her last name again?

Jenny:

John: 1st tone, 2nd tone. You might think that Chinese surnames are always a single syllable, but that is actually not the case.

John: First of all, the word ...

Jenny: 根据。根据。

John: 1st tone, 4th tone. 根据 means 'according to'.

John: This is a very common collocation. 根据 means 'in accordance with' or 'according to', and 要求 means 'requirement' or 'demands'.

Jenny: 对。

John: The tones are ...

Jenny:

Jenny:

John: We have the word for 'select'. How do you say that?

Jenny:

John: 1st tone, 3rd tone. And 'select for you', how do we say that?

Jenny:

Jenny: 对的。

John: Can you just say 给 here?

John: So more respectful, more formal.

Jenny: 对。

John: So 为您挑选 is more formal than 给你挑选。

Jenny: 没错。

John: So 'we have selected some apartments'.

John: 'I'll introduce it to you'.

Jenny: 对。

John:
