Downloading Lessons During Trial Membership

February 03, 2008 at 04:15 AM posted in General DiscussionHi all! I'm trying to decide whether or not to join ChinesePod, and I'd like to listen to a whole bunch of lessons to see what I think (and not while sitting in front of my computer). Can I download the mp3s of some past lessons? The information the website offers on "My Feed" makes me think I should be able to download whatever I've bookmarked, but it looks like iTunes is only downloading new lessons.
Thanks!

@calkins
I'm such a dufus : o As it turns out, I have a 5th generation iPod and the dialogue text is downloaded with each lesson for me to read along with the lesson. Duh! I don't have to go thru that complicated method you posted in another thread. But thanks anyway, you've been really helpful on the boards : )

My problem is I need a microscope to read those characters on the nano. Any way of making them bigger?

February 03, 2008 at 05:47 PMAfter a little surfing, I've found out that in order to view the embedded dialogue, you need an iPod Nano or 5th generation iPod...mine is neither. For those who have either, here are instructions for viewing dialogue transcripts: Adding Lesson Dialogues to iPod ...and a link if you don't know what generation iPod you have: Identifying iPod Models

Thanks sushan. I'll see if I can get the embedded dialogues with the mp3. I always download the high quality mp3, so maybe that's the problem. I'll post again if I can figure it out.

Not sure but guess: mp3 files have the ability to store lyrics, so you need to find out how to show the lyrics on your iPod. (On your computer, in iTunes, can go file->get info->lyrics to see if they are attached.)
Chinesepod dialogs used to have the text attached as lyrics but no longer do for the free ones. I am not sure about the higher quality podcasts but those take too long to download anyway. My thoughts are that pdf files of any type are an enormous pain.

At the moment, the torrent does not seem to work though.
All I get is
"The requested URL /torrent/chinesepod001-500.torrent was not found on this server."

Jane,
I am also on the trial membership. i just figured it out...
once you go to the "my feed" page, then set your settings how you want them, it instructs you at the bottom of the page to subscribe to the link. for example, mine was http://chinesepod.com/kralex/lessons/feed, so in ITunes, i went to advanced/subscribe to podcast, and then typed in that adress. so it basically subscribes you to your own personalized podcast. once i did this, the lessons i had bookmarked immediately started downloading.

February 03, 2008 at 05:24 AMSushan (or anyone), is there any truth to what Tim says in the above linked blog? "... push the middle ipod button twice and walla! You have the Text of the chinese dialogue..." Basically saying that when you're listening to a lesson on your iPod, you can push the middle button twice and up comes the dialogue transcript. I've tried this on numerous lessons with no success. This would be great if true...I convert all the pdf's into .txt files then load them to my iPod...a bit of a pain.

I think whatever you bookmark is supposed to be in your feed.
Although I am subscriber, I recently bookmarked a couple recent lessons and they show up in my home page, but iTunes doesn't load them. I don't recall it working like this.
If the CPod team doesn't respond to your post here, try sending them an e-mail. They are usually pretty responsive.

February 03, 2008 at 09:29 PM:P AZERDocMom, I immediately thought of you when I found this out! Too funny.
I think the only difference is that the vocabulary isn't provided on the embedded dialogue...and it seems like the newer lessons don't include any dialogue at all.
Ah, the new avatar with the 孩子 (háizi)...you were right, they are very cute!
