A thought-provoking post from Jason on his sloppytranslation blog about how he is looking for things to help 'nag' him into studying.

Should ChinesePod 'nag' more? What would be most helpful?

Sure, we could all use a little more nagging. But more important than that is an inner nag, for lack of a better term. If you don't have that inner passion to learn Chinese, and to do whatever is necessary for you to learn it well (such as participating), then I don't believe any amount of external nagging will help.

If this is the extrinsic motivation vs. intrinsic motivation argument, then yeah intrinsic motivation is more effective. The community issue (going back to sloppy translation's post) is a bit different. Hmmm, maybe if Chinesepod provided a way for learners at similar levels and with similar goals to 'buddy up' and help keep each other on sched?
