Demographic development in China?

From what we hear on the news, it seems apparent that the PRC is undergoing a major change, especially in terms of demographics. As I am very interested in learning about the daily life and culture of the country whose language I study, I would really like to read about your experiences with and observations of this issue. [I hope it is a safe topic to discuss.
