Newsreaders fined for mispronunciation

Posted by minazhu May 2, 2008 in the Group General Discussion.

CCTV has introduced a fine system for its presenters according to ElPais. (http://www.elpais.com/articulo/sociedad/telediario/nacional/China/multa/presentadores/pronuncien/mal/elpepusoc/20080502elpepusoc_4/Tes)

For each mispronounced word, newsreaders will have to cough up 7-28$.

I really hope someone can provide an English article.

I wonder - does any deviation from putonghua or even the Beijing dialect count as incorrect?

Gosh, that's stricter than the emphasis on received pronunciation until a few decades ago, and probably less feasible than the use of "dictionary pronunciation" in TEFL... ;-)
