Average rent in Shanghai?

I will be moving to Shanghai on a six-month work assignment this summer. My company has provided me with a specific budget to cover my rent and I'm trying to see if it's "enough". I plan to rent a one-bedroom apartment in the downtown area. Any ideas around average rent and suggestions about best places to live? Ideally I would like to live near my office, which is in Puxi. Thanks!

High life bro, good job.

It all depends on what your are used to. If you want to stay in a gated expat community, you wont make it, but I just looked at apartments in Beijing in January and this kind of money will buy you a nice place. Granted SH is a little higher and puxi especially but still you should be very comfortable for 14000 RMB/month.

There is a place for every budget, really. The more you pay, of course, the nicer the apartment and better location. If you let us know your budget, i can tell you what kind of a place you can get for it. Also, its alot harder to find one bedroom apartments here. Most of the places are at least 2 bedroom.
