August 23, 2009, 08:02 PMHi everybody,
Wow, I was surprised to find a Des Moines group here. I didn't even know there was a Chinese name for it. Somehow I bet that dropping 得梅因市 would get you a lot of blank stares over seas. I'll probably stick with 愛河華州的首都 :)
Just wanted to introduce myself 一下. I'm living in Cincinnati now but grew up in DSM, gradated from Roosevelt and Central Academy in 2003. I only started studying Chinese recently and I'd be interested to hear about my fellow 家鄉人的 perspectives learning Chinese in Des Moines. I did know one guy at Central that took the Chinese class there. The only Chinese-speaking people there that I know of are those at the asian market in the East Village. Oh and now we've got that cool Chinese culture center on the river I have yet to check out. Anybody been there yet?
