January 30, 2008, 12:08 AM“信”here is a special meaning:tongue of snack.Notice：just for the snack. “吐”is a verb:to spit. As we all know, snack likes to spit its red tongue. Such a action we call it as 吐信。
只有一个头上的蛇嘴 means： there is only one mouth on one head of the snack. Coz this snack has two heads and two mouthes.Only one of them can '吐信’

我甚至怕蛇、 蜘蛛,基本上个个爬行地动物，但是小蜥蜴没问题。

January 30, 2008, 05:41 AMThe sentence basically means that only one of the snake heads (and tongues) is functional and can spit venom (毒液 dúyè, 毒汁 dúzhī). The mouth from the other head cannot move.

January 29, 2008, 09:37 PMI have some difficulties with this snake: How should one understand 只有一个头上的蛇嘴能够吐信? For a start, what is 吐信? The word 吐 means either "spit" or "vomit", none of which seems to fit entirely in here. But the real problem for me is the "信". This character has several meanings, but none which I am able use in this sentence... Even if I could figure this out, I am not sure that I could analyse the rest of the sentence properly. If we had 只有一个头的蛇 I suppose that it could mean "A snake with only one head", but unfortunately there is also a "上" in there.
Any ideas?
