Chinese Name : a FAQ

Posted by franch June 11, 2007 in the Group General Discussion.

I need a formal, if not official, Chinese name to fill in my visa application form. I think I should settle for 法郎 fa3láng (somehow quaint) as a surname (François) since two characters is the norm. But how do foreigners usually choose a family name? If I were to use the initial syllable of my name, would it be convenient to pick one of the main Chinese names? Or should I make up a 复姓, a two-syllable name? 多谢
