Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how to pronounce two words with both at third tone, eg. gu3 ben3?

Thanks!

Hi desmondlee

With consecutive third tones, the first one becomes a second tone, and the second stays a third tone. So your word 股本 would be pronounced gu2ben3.

Although the pronunciation of such a word will change, it is still written in keeping with normal pinyin usage, which means gu3ben3.
