广州一万辆出租车集体罢运
中国南方城市广州星期一（12月1日）发生出租车司机集体罢运事件，市内一万辆出租车没有营业。
据香港电视媒体报道，广州警方严阵以待，在司机们可能进行请愿的广州市交通委员会门外布防，周边至少500米范围都有治安队员或配备防暴盾牌的公安人员站岗。
据报道，罢运司机聚集的地方也有警员监视。
罢运车辆占全广州出租车总数约70%。司机们埋怨每月1万元人民币的租车费用太高，出租车公司还任意征收罚金。
司机们还说，市政府最近发出700个新增的出租车营业执照，加剧了竞争，影响他们的生计。
一些广州市民表示，等候出租车要等上30分钟。

Could you please tell me what the sources are? Is it an authentic language material or has been simplified to suit intermediate/upper-inter level learners?
I am asking because I find it much easier to read than on-line Chinese newspapers.

December 02, 2008, 01:10 PMmona2222, none of these news are simplified, but they are coming from Chinese language versions of European news, generally not Chinese websites.
Clicking on the date at top (2008年12月01日) will take you to the original article, BBC in this case. BBC and RFI (see recent Bangkok article) are pretty much the only two sites that get these from nowadays (with permission in the case of RFI).
I don't make any change to the articles, but the editorial choice I make certainly has an impact, even if my main criterion is interest, not complexity.
